The raw carob truffle began her debut in the United States half a decade ago, During her sweet beginnings, she was a perfect sphere ---- completely round, in 3 dimensions. Her skin was as smooth as maple syrup. And she was bathed in carob powder. She was the temptress, and yes, all about glamour. As the truffle matured, she no longer cared for prettiness---- she wanted to express her inner self. She wanted to be real. And so like the earth, she transformed her sphere, into a rumply textured planet ---- with crevices, pores, bumps and hills. Her new surface was complicated, sophisticated, heterogeneous. The cosmetic carob powder she once adorned, was now merely dusting her new body---- as a veil of rain that nourishes the new earth to grow. This intense nature of her reclaiming of herself----- gave way to an older, wiser truffle, who was now fully confident with herself, and therefore, happy. She became like a teacher, full of sharing and fun-loving lessons. Her shape became like an cylinder, but with a broader base and narrower head. She wore a raspberry hat, which later grew a flag of lemon grass. Sometimes she wore a tangle of orange hair instead. Who says senior citizen truffles aren't sexy? Just for a party she was attending, the truffle took a long massage in the food processor, smoothing out her wrinkles. Naked as a deer, she lay on a bed of rose petals, gilded in gold and dusted herself in coconut powder. For her shape, she became a crescent moon, not too slim or too round, but just a little coy. Once again, the truffles have evolved. Today they stand before you, proud and in a new shape----- for we are entering the millenium and the truffle must embody all that is intelligent and cosmic about the future. For now, the truffles must be uniform, standing proud, as sacred geometry. We salute you! You are the new generation of truffles. We have given you a new shape, wear it with honor and dignity. Do not disgrace your ancestors, for you have inherited a legacy of truffledom. Stand tall--- you on the end there, you're slouching---- stand tall ----- and proud----- for you are truffles! End.
